At its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 25 June, the Council of
Medical Colleges appointed a new Executive Committee.
The 2015 CMC Executive Committee are Dr Rosie Edwards from the
RANZCP, Dr Michael Dray from the RCPA, and Associate Professor Mark
Lane from the RACP. Dr Derek Sherwood will continue his term as
Chair of CMC.
The Chair extended his thanks, on behalf of CMC, to departing
Executive Committee Members Drs David Sage, John Tait and Julia
Peters.
Other highlights from the CMC AGM and Board Meeting
included:
- An informative dialogue with Hon Dr Jonathan Coleman, Minister
of Health
- A session with Ruth Anderson and Emmanuel Jo from Health
Workforce New Zealand to discuss workforce pipeline issues, how to
identify 'critical' specialties, and influences on the workforce
over the next ten years.
- A presentation from Dr Peter Robinson, Clinical Director at
ACC
- Discussion about the possible implementation of theChoosing
WiselyProject in New Zealand and how this should be managed.
- Progress on a joint project between CMC, the Medical Council of
New Zealand and the Ministry of Health on the 'Best Practice Guide
for Continuous Practice Improvement' - A framework for use
when developing or reviewing programmes set up to demonstrate the
competence and performance of medical specialists.
- Approval of CMC's Statement on Obesity in New Zealand - to be
published shortly.
- Approval of a revised CMC Deed of Trust.
- Discussion about better public data - benefits to the
profession and the public.
CMC also appreciated the attendance of Dr Stephen Child and
Lesley Clarke, Chair and CEO of NZMA respectively, and Joan
Crawford from the Medical Council of New Zealand.
